What’s happening with the Oishei Foundation
March 5, 2024
In October, the Oishei Foundation shared the framework for a new strategic direction, committing to significant shifts in the work we do and how we do it. Our vision is to collaborate with the community in building a foundation for racial equity—a foundation for a better Buffalo—together.
The strategic planning process led to a clear realization: By narrowing our focus, we see an opportunity to create even greater impacts. This is much more than the launch of a new program or initiative, it’s a complete shift in the Oishei Foundation’s approach to our philanthropic work.
Moving forward, our efforts and resources will be entirely dedicated to addressing the root causes of racial inequity to build financial prosperity through systems change. We will start with Black communities on Buffalo’s East Side, where there are many vibrant, proud neighborhoods, home to strong Black communities and people who contribute in powerful ways, yet do not participate equally in our regional growth.
“Philanthropy is commendable, but it must not cause the philanthropist to overlook the circumstances of economic injustice which make philanthropy necessary.”
–Martin Luther King, Jr.
