Celebrating the 2024 Oishei High School Scholars
August 13, 2024
The 2024 cohort—the final new class of Oishei Scholars—shared a welcome with an ice cream social. Since its inception in 1998, the Oishei Scholarship Program has been a beacon of hope for economically disadvantaged students, with a focus on students of color. This prestigious four-year scholarship offers recipients full tuition to the private school of their choice, along with social and emotional support, support for books, and technology needs. Key highlights of the program include:
- Foundation and Evolution: Launched as an access program to diversify student bodies at local private high schools, the program has evolved to specifically support students of color with financial need since 2006.
- Impact: Nearly 400 students have benefited from this scholarship, receiving comprehensive support throughout their high school journey.
- Partnerships: The Education Collaborative of WNY and Buffalo Prep are key partners, providing management, academic, and social and emotional support.
- Current Engagement: Today, 12 private schools participate actively, with 52 students currently enrolled and supported.
As the program transitions with its final class graduating in 2028, the Oishei Scholarship continues to foster a robust DEI initiative, creating schools of belonging for all students. The scholarship has not only paved the way for academic success but also opened doors to lifelong relationships and opportunities. Our scholars have gone on to excel in various fields, becoming doctors, lawyers, engineers, artists, educators, and more.
Join us in celebrating the incredible journey of the 2024 cohort and their bright futures ahead. Let’s honor their hard work, resilience, and the promising paths they are set to embark on!
