Buffalo Funk Fest 2024
Community, Music, Service
September 5, 2024
The energy was electric at the 20th anniversary of the Buffalo Funk Fest August 23 – 25, as the community came together for days filled with joy, connection, and music. Held at MLK Jr. Park, the festival celebrated unity and the vibrant spirit of our Buffalo community. Attendees were treated to soulful performances by local bands, whose rhythms had everyone dancing and singing along.
Amidst the music and dancing, a special moment was the presentation of the First Annual Joyce Wilson-Nixon Community Service Award, named after the late Buffalo singer and community stakeholder.
This prestigious honor, presented by Funk Fest founder and curator Marnetta Malcom, was awarded to Adriana Viverette, a beloved radio and television personality and Vice President of the Buffalo Association of Black Journalists. Adriana’s contributions to the community have been nothing short of inspiring, and this award serves as a testament to her unwavering dedication to uplifting and serving others.
Funk Fest 2024 was more than a music festival—it was a testament to the power of community, the joy of connection, and the importance of honoring those who make a difference.
