The John R. Oishei Foundation and the Health Foundation for Western and Central New York Continue their Partnership in Hosting Capacity Building Program
Andy Goodman, a nationally known storytelling expert, writer, and speaker will share his storytelling tips and techniques in a virtual format for local nonprofit professionals to kick off StoryGrowing WNY after a two-year COVID-related hiatus.
StoryGrowing WNY is a free, intensive program designed to build marketing communications capacity under a storytelling umbrella, sponsored by The Health Foundation for Western and Central New York and The John R. Oishei Foundation. More information and registration can be found at www.StoryGrowingWNY.org.
Area nonprofit organizations are invited to participate in the virtual event to be held on April 29 from noon to 1:30 pm to learn about the many types of stories and how to deliver them effectively. Attendees will also learn how to apply to the overall StoryGrowing WNY program that will include a series of in-person workshops held from June through August. The virtual kickoff workshop is useful for all organizations regardless of their interest in applying or their success in being selected for the overall program.
Eight local nonprofit organizations will be chosen to participate in the overall program that is designed to help local nonprofits harness the power of storytelling, build capabilities in effective marketing and communications, and connect them with local communications experts. The workshops will focus on a variety of marketing and communications tools including branding, in-person storytelling, public relations, and digital communications. The workshops will be taught by local marketing communications professionals as well as a final workshop with Andy Goodman on ethical storytelling and asset framing.
Andy Goodman, Co-founder and Director of the Goodman Center and an internationally recognized speaker, author, and consultant known for his workshops on storytelling, has helped develop the overall curriculum and will be the featured speaker at the virtual kickoff event.
After two highly successful programs in 2017 and 2019, the third planned StoryGrowing in 2020 was canceled due to the pandemic. The Health Foundation for Western and Central New York and The John R. Oishei Foundation remain committed to StoryGrowing WNY with a goal of building the communications and storytelling capacity so that the local non-profit community can effectively tell their stories and meet their missions.
