Statement from The John R. Oishei Foundation after the verdict in the Derek Chauvin case
While the verdict in the Derek Chauvin case is a hopeful sign for our country, our work is far from done until we deal with and root out systemic racism. We continue to witness far too many acts of violence and hate, as well as more subtle acts of aggression, bias, and prejudice directed at people of color.
These injustices have deepened our individual and collective resolve towards and commitment to racial equity. We will actively strive to listen, understand, and embrace the experiences of others to guide our work and our commitment to racial equity and we will use our resources, our networks, and our leadership to advance systemic change.
Our region and our nation cannot thrive unless we intentionally address these issues every day. Our goal is to highlight the humanity in each other and find ways to cherish and uphold our diversity rather than have it used to divide us.
