Dear Friends,
Fifteen years ago, when I joined the Oishei Foundation as President, I didn’t know much about philanthropy. While it aligned with my interest in working to create a better WNY, I didn’t really know what to expect. What I did not imagine was that it would be the job that I loved the most.
While I so appreciate the sentiments I have received since announcing my retirement, I know that any impact that I may have had on our community has always been because of the willingness of others to work together to make real change. I am grateful to so many of you who provided guidance, counsel, partnership, collaboration, and perspective – all in an effort to make Western New York a better place to live and work.
I am very proud of the work our team has accomplished in contributing to a revitalized and re-energized Western New York. I am equally proud of our work to improve the lives of many who are not always associated with the City’s renaissance. I hope that I have lived up to the example of John R. Oishei for his quiet philanthropy and to my predecessor, Tom Baker, who set the bar high in always trying to find a way to “say yes.”
Most of the credit for positive change in our community goes to our deeply dedicated local nonprofits who are on the ground every day making a difference. Our entire community is grateful for the work that each of you does every day!
As I hand the baton to my extraordinarily capable successor, Christina Orsi, I know that the Foundation is in good hands with an extraordinary staff to support her leadership. My hope is that each of you continues to be engaged and committed to making our community the best place it can be. I know I will!
All my best for a happy 2022!
Robert
